Gods Sabbath
and
How Are We To Keep Gods Sabbath Holy

This is a scripture study, not a teaching, the purpose to understand what is meant when said, we are to keep Gods Sabbath Holy. To begin this search for meaning, it is in the first book of the Old Testament we are told of this Sabbath, told in Gen 2:1-3 "Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made." This then is the seventh day, not of mans understanding, but of God, when on the sixth day of Gods day and night, having finished creation, on the seventh day God rested. Understand, it is not the seventh day that is the Sabbath... this verse says, within the seventh day is Gods rest, it is not the seventh day, it is Gods Rest within that is the Sabbath.

So then how do Christians or the assembly of God to keep Gods Sabbath Rest Holy, and for this we must look within Gods Word of two Covenants, the first or Old Testament based upon faithfulness and the Law, and as man of flesh bent to sin, God making provision for the covering of sin by sacrifice. These were then called the upright and righteous of God, knowing they would one day die of flesh body, but with promise of a Messiah, who would one day raise them from the grave/Sheol, and bring them into the everlasting Kingdom of God. This Kingdom or Paradise of God being everlasting as the prophet describes in, Isaiah 65:17-19 "For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, And her people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, And joy in My people; The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, Nor the voice of crying."

Before God brought the Hebrew people out from bondage under Egypt, no mention of a Sabbath day is found imposed by God upon the Hebrew people. It is later when God has brought the Hebrew people into the new land, God then decrees a specific calendar day of man, this is when the Hebrew people are commanded to establish their calendar date in which they would cease all their work as their Sabbath rest. This we find in Exodus 20:8-11 and Deuteronomy 5:12-15, here first God explains His Sabbath Rest, God then imposes upon the Hebrew people a specific day from their calendar of days, on this day the Hebrew people must cease from their work, describing Laws they are commanded obey, along with the conditions they now must follow during their day of rest. Remembered however this was a Sabbath rest requirement of the Hebrew people, under the conditions God establishes, under the Old Covenant. How mans Sabbath is related to Gods Sabbath Rest is stated clearly in Ps 95:7-11 "Today, if you will hear His voice: "Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, As in the day of trial in the wilderness, When your fathers tested Me; They tried Me, though they saw My work. For forty years I was grieved with that generation And said, 'It is a people who go astray in their hearts, And they do not know My ways.' So I swore in My wrath, 'They shall not enter My rest.'"

Certainly the calendar days of man have changed often over the ages of man, before related to the moon of which God had created along with the sun for mans calendar of days, weeks, months, and years. The question then must be answered whether both the upright and righteous of Old Covenant, including the New Covenant faithful are called to rest on a specific day of the week. No where in the New Testament am I aware of Christ commanding nor setting aside a specific day in which Christians are to have a day of Sabbath rest. About both Covenant faithful saying, Hebrews 11:39-40 "And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us." We are reminded within the New Covenant what Gods special purpose of mans Sabbath told in Mark 2:25-28 "But He said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, he and those with him: how he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and also gave some to those who were with him?" And He said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath." Now it is certain within the New Covenant we need look to Christ, and His revelation, as how Christians are to keep Gods Sabbath Rest Holy.

This is what Christ instructed His faithful or church to be accomplished yet within our time of this earth age, Christ gave this instruction, John 14:12-14 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it." These works we are told were predestined by God, the Lord God giving spiritual gifts with which to accomplish these works, Christ describes the works as, Matt 28:18-20 "And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

Yet some say we have one day to accomplish keeping Gods Sabbath Holy, some saying Saturday, and others saying Sunday, one or the other as the one day in which perhaps we are to do nothing, and by this keeping Gods Sabbath Holy. Christ within the New Testament directed no calendar day set aside for Sabbath rest, verse partially covering this is Romans 14:5-10 "One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living. But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. The New Covenant does not command there is one only day to keep Gods Sabbath Holy, the New Covenant commands of how we are to serve His will and purpose, until we enter within Gods Sabbath Rest.

Quite honestly, what do we have, of out own creation, that we might set aside to give honor and glory for Gods Sabbath rest? Here I believe instead is what the Word tells us in 1 Corinthians 4:7 "For who makes you to differ from another? and what have you that you did not receive? now if you did receive it, why do you glory, as if you had not received it?" May I offer an opinion, it is our works fulfilled of which God predestined, that we keep the Sabbath Rest of God Holy. My reason for this an important instruction from Christ, Matt 6:33-34 "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

It is always my warning that you are to test every word and spirit that cones your way, against (or with) the word of God for validity. So again this is a study and not a teaching, yet perhaps needed be read again, for just perhaps there is a message here that leads the seeker to Gods truth, the word of the bible spiritually discerned by those faithful having the Holy Spirit within.... is there one day (only) that you accomplish in keeping Gods Sabbath Rest Holy? Concerning the true Old Covenant faithful whom the Apostle said God did not reject, I believe these well described in Romans 2:12-16 "12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; 13(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. 14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) 16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel." The Lord God has already told us, He will splice onto the Root Christ Jesus the Savior all those He desires.... did you notice Gentiles are mentioned?
