Authority Within The Church

God has established an order; a line of authority within the church, this authority follows from the Kingship of our Lord to the least of his flock. Within this order there is the power of God, and from the very least of the flock may God administer His justice. Yet it is within this order that everything must be done, for the Lord calls for maturity and unity within the church.

The word of God teaches us that among ourselves we have this order of authority, and should disagreement be found then order must be re-established. This order starts from the individual to a body of at least two as witnesses, finally to the entire congregation who are the body of believers, the Church of Christ. In this is shown the order of the line of authority, from the individual, through the body of believers, and to Christ who is the authority over all.

It is written in Matt 18:15-18 "If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.' If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector. I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

Listen to teaching that we believers are but a shadow of what we are to be, still within this tent of flesh, and this flesh we are told having a nature that is bent to sin. Yet remember, as the new man or new spiritual man we are part of the body, and from this spiritual body the Lord has established His Church. What this means is that no man should hesitate in the service of the Lord because he is merely an individual believer, being diligent in concern for the tent of flesh that is sinful. Were there no works predestined by the Lord enabled through gifts of power, no man might do the will of the Lord. Still the Word warns us that anyone who says he is not a sinner, is a liar. Then let no one say we are to live as does the world because we still live in flesh, and if God gives one man a word to speak, speak it as the word of God. If need be in our service for the Lord, let the entire world be as liars, and only our Lord who is of God just and true.
