The Church as Body of Christ
Matt 18:20
For where two or three come together in my name
there am I with them.

The Lord does not ordinarily send out one person alone, but usually in two or more. Just as issue between two might require more than the two at issue. There is power within the church, within the body of believers, for in the church is the army of the Lord.

God has called us individually into the body of believers, the body is the church, and the Church is Christ. The Word tells us in
Eph. 1:21-23 "And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
We are called to be members of one body described in Eph. 2:21-22 "In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives in his Spirit."

In this building God has set apart each one for a separate purpose, as in 1Cor. 12:18 "But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be." Always aware that we are unique and unique in the body as described in 1Cor. 12:14 "Now the body is not made up of one part but of many." Each one then within the body is a part of the church, it is the church that has all power and authority described in 1Cor. 12:12 "The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts, and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ."

In building the church God has a plan set out in Eph. 10-13 "It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare Gods people for the works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of fullness of Christ." In this we as the church will serve Gods purpose, which is our spiritual sacrifice described in 1Peter 2:5 "...you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ."

So we are called into unity and maturity, into the church which is the body of Christ, and into service that is our spiritual sacrifice. We are commanded in Col.3:1-3 "Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." Always remembering in our heart and mind to remain in Christ, for only in Christ do we bear fruit as described in John 15:4 "No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me."

We then are the church, and the Lord has a purpose for the church told to us in Eph. 3:9-11 "His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord." Our work yet upon this earth is described in Eph. 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." In our spiritual war we must stand and be prepared, as forewarned in 2Thess. 2:2-4 "Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for the day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction." In this war we will have spiritual weapons to overcome all the enemy, we will accomplish this as described in Rom. 12:21 "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

And this is Gods purpose revealed in Col 1:15-20 "For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross." And this is our part within the purpose of our Lord God 1Cor. 15:23-26 "Then the end will come, when he hands over the Kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death." Our labor will not be in vain, God gives us his promise in 1Cor. 3:6-9 "So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who will make things grow. The man who waters has one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor."

The church's of America will not find their strength in numbers, the Lord has already told us our strength will be found only in unity with Christ. Today in America we have many churches of large numbers, but in truth these are little more than social clubs. Many of these churches spend most of their time with a leader who preaches over and over again how to be saved. If not a 3-10 step plan, then teaching from the Bible to immature Christians with carnal minds how they should adopt character described of some biblical individual within a sermon. These religious leaders although knowing good works of man are called filthy rags by God, none the less teach their immature followers to develop good character to do good works in relation to others in the world.

Very few true churches exist in America today who follow the Lords commands of using both the appointed and service gifts needed to bring the entire church into spiritual maturity and unity. Most church leaders realize that as long as they stay silent, earning a tax deferment, they will not be brought before the rulers and authorities. Most church leaders are happy to become known best within their own band of religious following, staying within their own division of religiosity, evidenced as success by gathering a large following. These are the churches Revelation calls neither warm nor cold, who sit upon a fence and accomplish little. Flee from such a church. Instead search out the church of Christ, answer the calling and fulfill the Lords purpose in your life.
