Understanding the Blessings of God concerning Jabez

This study concerns the blessings of God, and in regard to these blessings, their purpose involving ourselves as servants of God. The study subject then is to understand the blessings of God. In a study of the word for Gods blessings, prayer for discernment is preparation that opens the eyes and ears of our heart.

This study concerns the story of Jabez, that I now believe was placed in Gods word as warning to those mature. Understand it begins with a man that is apparently already wealthy to some extent, this being what brings appreciation and respect among men, however Jabez is praying for more wealth. It might also be understood that having experience of what wealth brings, Jabez next prays for God to protect him so that he does not suffer with or because of this added wealth. Do your own study of what the Old Testament says about wealth, see what Christ taught in the New Testament, remembering God granted the prayer of Jabez.

Do we understand what God means when he tells us of his blessings, 'Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you'. Surely God gives us blessings, and these blessings will be added to, 'For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance', but what does God mean by abundance.

Concerning these blessings, God tells us they will be given beyond our imagination, in abundance that no earthly vessel could hold. Yet here there can be taken meaning that misunderstands purpose, we in Christ will reside in the glory of Gods abundance, yet we need remove our minds from needs only in this life, looking beyond to see Gods purpose. Gods promises and blessings are needed in this lifetime, yet also in the lifetime the eye cannot see, and here will be seen the reality of Gods purpose.

A Christian having Gods abundance will as often be accepted by secular and Christian alike. This teaches that Gods blessings are treasures that surpass not only needs of the flesh, filling need even in the soul. Abundance and need are evidence of Gods will and purpose, showing how God provides, and how these blessings are used. Blessings when used in Gods purpose, bringing abundance even to be stored as treasures in heaven. As good stewards, abundance beyond our need does not mean abundance without need.

In this lifetime we are Gods vessels, vessels of Gods love through Christ Jesus, God teaches how we are to serve in His purpose. We were bought with a price, in this salvation we are given a work predestined that serves Gods good will and purpose. It is not our will or purpose in which we serve, we serve God only. Scripture also says, 'mans works are as filthy rags to God', these are the works of our own will and for our own purpose.

About His Kingdom and concerning His will and purpose the Lord says, 'This is how you should pray, your will be done, your kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven', about this Kingdom God says, 'and whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant and whoever wants to be first must be your slave'. Finally about these blessings God says, 'seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well'. What do these words tell us of the blessings God has in abundance, what is the purpose and use for these treasures given into our lives.

There is warning regarding these blessings, understanding these warnings requires discernment, not the discernment of the world described as, 'You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you'. God continues with 'many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first'. We all know these warnings, and surely then we understand our blessings and treasures are meant for need of both body and soul. Here even natural man sees beyond the incomplete bounty that is only material possession.

In this present age we should look closely at what is called reality, a reality much like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, a sign of the times as prophesied in Gods word. Of this reality God says, 'If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink of the wine of God's fury'. But what of Gods people during this time, here also God prepares us with warning saying, 'Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people'.

Gods blessings are not man made treasures of this earth, nor are they what natural man calls treasure, nor will Gods people all be gifted with what the world regards as wealth. Natural man will hate us as Christ says, 'If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first', and Christ was not hated for the evidence of acquired wealth. Look around you, are all Christians in the world wealthy, wealthy by the standards of this world? Of course not, or should we doubt Christians who do not evidence wealth as also not having Christ, again of course not.

So what if you have received the God given gift of giving, does this mean you are in great danger or more blessed as a Christian, again of course not. Then why must a Christian evidence wealth in this world as evidence of Gods love and blessings. Here also it should be evident to all, that abundant blessings may not be observed as wealth by either Christian or natural man, and blessings alone are not what brings the wrath of man against Christians. Then rejoice if God gives you the gift of giving, but remember if God had given everyone this same blessing, then what would your gift be worth. If all are to have this gift, then what of the gift of the Macedonians, and concerning said 'He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little'. In everyone's life will be times of plenty, and times of need, this life consisting of both natural and spiritual.

Look one last time at the many Godly men of history, of the Apostle's who tasked themselves in life, not wanting to be a burden on others. Did you know these Apostle were looked upon as un-educated, as common and ordinary men, but noted as men with Christ. Who are the men of this age held in same high esteem, were they all men of means according to this world? Look close at those today held in high esteem, those whose lives meet the standards of this world, do some even within the church evidence this standard? Unfortunately there are such men in the church, such a man dealt with evil men enabling purchase of diamond and gold mines, these in a land of poverty. Being also man who uses Gods word, then teaches we repay evil for evil, and that good can come (out of) evil. These are not men who we should emulate, here indeed are idols.

So much false teaching abounds today, surely this should give us warning, especially false teaching coming from leaders within the church. Isn't this further warning of the signs of the time, perhaps the nearness of the very end time. Here is a teaching of the Lord, Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." Indeed, this light (is) the source of all blessings, not only of this life, but the one to come.

If you are a person interested in the prayer of Jabez, and wish to be like this person mentioned in scripture, my suggestion is that you read more of the Bible to learn about Jabez. What significance did Jabez have regarding the full teachings on this subject in the Bible? What was the importance in scripture concerning Jabez prayer, or that God answered his prayer? Did this scripture tell us to emulate Jabez, and if this is so, why was the entire New Testament silent about Jabez? What in novel's written about Jabez is taught concerning Gods will and purpose concerning this event? Just a though, but did you know that God is 'kind to the ungrateful and wicked' both?
