Our Old Order - and - Age To Come
Revelation 20:1-7

To begin, read Revelation 20:1-7 verses precisely as they have been written, telling of two separate and important events, both occurring within a Greek period called a 'Chilioi'. Consider that instead of both events as seperate and exact 'one' thousand, they are instead conjointly describing thousands of years involved for two events yet within this present earth age. It would then be an unknown 'number' today expressed as a singular (kilo), however during the era the Greek 'Chilioi' was used, instead represented as used expressing an unspecified sum of (plural) thousands. The specific quantative sum then concerning Satan bound and sealed in the abyss, was then as today yet an unknown quantative sum of time, however ending when Satan will be released from the abyss. Of Satan, Rev 12:9 tells of Satan and his angels defeated in heaven and cast to earth. Next Rev 20:1 tells us of an angel that came down from heaven with keys to the abyss, casting Satan bound and sealed into the abyss, the fallen angels also as scripture says until the era or last days of judgment.

So we begin reading the event (Rev 20:1-3) describing in past tense after Satan defeated in war within heaven and cast to earth, now and in these verses (1-3) saying Satan is bound and sealed within the Abyss, no longer able to lead all nations astray as had been done before the flood. In other verse we are told the fallen angels cast into this same place until judgment. Since Satan is cast once only from heaven with one third of the angels ending in the abyss or Hell, let us leave Satan now in the abyss, and discuss the following verses (Rev 20:4-6) telling of the saints saved by grace through Christ now Holy Spirit reborn, once spiritually dead in sin, now born again or made alive again in the Holy Spirit, as deposit and guarantee, having a part in the first resurrection.

About Revelation 20:4-6 we are told of saints that will have a part in the first resurrection, and these saints to reign with Christ. About reigning with Christ, it should be no great mystery that the saints enduring in Christ will reign with Christ for eternity, not for a short one thousand years. From Revelation 12:7-13 is repeated precisely the same as described in Revelation 20:1-7, this is what I believe these verses are telling us.

We know the word tells us that the dead (in Christ) will rise first, so what do we know of the dead at this point and after the crucifixion of Christ. We know that Christ went into the depth where He preaches (or) proclaims. We know the Old Covenant 'upright and righteous' at death went into the grave, here the righteous rested in peace, while the wicked found no peace. We know God promised these Old Covenant upright and righteous would one day to be resurrected into God's Paradise. These upright and righteous 'dead in the grave' were certainly those resurrected first, told in Eph 4:8 Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men." This in Revelation-20 came to pass when rising with Christ in victory over death, received the promised resurrection as salvation grace through Christ. We also know this salvation by grace through Christ continue in the New Covenant (Testament), described as a time set aside for the Gentile, when gifts were given those redeemed yet living then serve or reign with Christ.

Certainly the Gentile who before were dead in their sin, now saved by faith receiving the Holy Spirit of salvation, these also in death of the body go to be with the Lord. Does this mean they go into the grave/Sheol in Hell, no, here again is what I believe. The Gentile once dead in sin but repentant of heart, as enduring believers through Christ seeking salvation, are made alive again by the Holy Spirit as deposit and guarantee. These are the born again or made alive again when resurrected from spiritual death, who then at death of flesh body, have their soul go directly to the Lord. Is the Lord in Hell, no, the Lord told is now in Heaven. But there is more, and this concerns those yet living.

At this point needs be interjected that God is not God of the dead, but the living, and this concerns both Gentile and Hebrew faithful called Israel, the later those Apostle Paul described of hardened heart also said God has not rejected. These Hebrew remaining under law and without sacrifice nor all of past Temple need, God said He promises these remaining faithful called doers of the law will receive His saving grace. This is how I believe God accomplishes this grace for the Hebrew that have passed on within the New Covenant, in Rom 2:12-14 "For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves..." Some bible versions say "obey the law", however a more accurate translation of the Greek 'Poieetai' (NT3752) in this verse describes as 'doer', and this also describing Gentile.

This brings us to both the Hebrew and Gentile yet living in the last days, as final regathering of all Hebrew and Gentile yet living. This begins at the 'end' of Revelation 20:1-6, when Satan is released from the Abyss to become ruler over the entire earth. Remember at this point there will be a people (saints) that remain faithful for 1290-days (three and one half years), the first half of seven years with Satan as ruler. About the mysterious saints it says that after remaining faithful 1335-days, they are called into heaven. These I believe are all of the saints yet living on earth, that are 'caught up or gathered together' into heaven and are identified as "these are they coming out of the great tribulation". Those remaining on earth, these moan at seeing Christ return, including the one that stabbed Christ, these are all the wicked that shall see the Gog and Magog army of Satan.

The previous paragraph needs additional explaining. Most understand that in the last days there will be (two) witnesses, actually this begins as introduction and not the full description, the word continues desribing these as (plural) 'two Olive Trees' and 'two Lampstands'. This teaching comes from the New Testament within the book of Revelation and where the Lampstand is the Gentile church. Remember also teaching concerning witnesses, it requires two or 'more' witnesses to validate a testimony. And so could these (more) witnesses total 144,000 people, 12,000 from each tribe. About who these witnesses are needs further understanding, are the witnesses only of the Hebrew people?

Gentile should remember we have been 'spliced into' Gods people, now called the Family of God. This I believe described symbolically as 'Alien with Family', having happened when God commanded the dividing of land among the 12-tribes, commanding also to include Alien with family found in Ezekiel 47:22-23 "You are to allot it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the aliens who have settled among you and who have children. You are to consider them as native-born Israelites; along with you they are to be allotted an inheritance among the tribes of Israel. In whatever tribe the alien settles, there you are to give him his inheritance," declares the Sovereign LORD."

So returning to explain Revelation 20:1-6, it was not 'one thousand years' ending at the end of verse six, it was a period or duration of time concerning both (two) events yet within this earth age, called more accurately (Greek Chilioi), translating into English as 'Thousands (of) years'. Why is it an unknown 'Thousands', because at this time Satan is still bound in the Abyss, and of course the reign of saints is eternal and forever. Prophet Isaiah confirmed the fall of Satan when cast directly into the grave/Sheol and pit/Abyss. Revelation 12:7-10 tells of Satan cast to earth (where in the Abyss he can no longer lead all nations astray), this is followed with important declaration in verse-10 saying 'NOW' has began the Salvation by Christ in Rev 12:10 "Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down." Paul validates this saying 2 Corinthians 6:2 "...I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation."

And so the remaining verses of Revelation 20:7-15 (described in future tense) of the remaining events on earth after Satan released from the abyss, leading to Satan's Gog and Magog army more numerous than sand on the seashore. These remaining verses tell of Satan and the wicked are again defeated (fire comes down from heaven), the defeated cast into a holding place called the Burning Lake of Sulfur, and here eventually all wicked will end up. The last of revelation-20:15 tells of final judgment, when all wicked now in a composite called 'Death and Hades', these in the very last verse cast into and destroyed within the Lake of Fire. During this earth age within Hell, the wicked are said suffer forever and forever, and certainly it would seem a long time. However after destroyed in the Lake of Fire as eternal punishment, another verse says, 'their suffering is smoke that rises forever'. We need remember God does not oppress, this is the way of man.

And so this Old Order and earth age ends, then begins the 'age to come', this is described in Revelation 21:1-4 "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

All things made new, as promised.
